We've It Got Down To A Science. Most people are unaware that wood restoration is a discipline full of science. Every wonder why there are black streaks running down from the screws or nails in a fence? That's a result of tannins within the wood release through the wood's surface and are exposed to the atmosphere for the first time. Unfortunately, the air and moisture within our atmosphere end up combining with the wood's tannins and the metal of the nails/screws to create a chemical reaction that creates black stains and streaks. There's chemical solutions for that situation, but correct dilution and application must be accurate.
Before staining wood, we gather pin-meter test results to determine if acceptable levels of moisture are found in the wood. We've found that only staining wood under 14% moisture has a tremendous effect on the longevity of the stain. Wood has higher moisture content towards the middle of the board's depth. As water and oil will not mix, only a dry center will allow deep penetration. The further the stain can soak in, the longer it lasts. By considering details such as these, we are able to provide provide a quality of work not achievable by those who bypass this high-end version of wood restoration. |
Customized Restoration Plans. No two decks or fences are the same - so why would the process of restoring them be the same?
Rather than take the time to handle each situation individually, the standard for most is applying blanket methods that use the same process for every deck or fence, regardless of the circumstances. This leads to charging for redundant services and overlooks the crucial particulars of each specific project. In doing so, the work will actually create more issues than it aimed to solve and can begin a cycle of headaches and damage that is entirely avoidable. The unique condition of each project - age, condition, wood species, previous maintenance, exposure to elements - require specific solutions that will best remove any obstacles or possible complications. For example - if a previous finish is not stripped off the wood before applying a new finish, there will be issues with penetration or adhesion that become exponentially harder as the mistakes are repeated. If the finish is stripped off but an insufficient amount of oxalic acid is used afterwards, it will not neutralize residual stripping agents. Any new finish may last 9 months instead of 2 years. This is one of the countless potential issues that result from improper maintenance. By taking the time to address each feature of the wood individually, the transformation can be more significant and the possible results are never mitigated. We educate clients on each step of the process, as well as the reasons for including them. Full-service restoration with a two-tone finish.

Fighting The Enemies Of Wood:
Rain, snow, UV rays, dirt, grime, algae, and other elements are harmful to your deck. Constant exposure to the elements will reduce lifespan, cause rot and other deterioration, structural damage, and a variety of cosmetic blemishes and discoloration that hide the natural beauty of wood. When properly maintained, a wood deck, fence, or other exterior structure can last 3+ decades. Conversely, failure to maintain that same wood can cut the lifespan by decades. Taking care of wood is an investment that not only maintains the beauty and integrity of the wood, but saves time and money by mitigating any repairs or replacements. Anyone who has gone through the process of building or replacing a deck/fence or fence will agree that the headaches, expenses, and process as a whole will make maintenance a no-brainer!
UV RaysUV damage is one of the most harmful things any wood is exposed to. This is especially true for Denver. UV damage kills wood fibers and is the cause for the light silver appearance that unprotected wood takes on.

MoistureWaterproofing the wood will seal it from the wet elements such as rain and snow. Water retention in the wood causes rot and other damage to the wood and any applied finish. Discoloration and other blemishes will be prevented entirely.
|
GrimeKeep dirty water, moss, and other dirt or grime off of your wood while sealing the natural extractives inside the wood. This will keep the wood looking unblemished and beautiful.
